Boeree’s win at the European Poker Tour (EPT) San Remo last week, however, is likely to catapult the 2008 European Ladies Championship winner into the upper echelons of professional poker.

After Day 3 of the EPT San Remo, Jakob Karlsson was leading the field on 1.8 million chips but failed to maintain the initiative on day 4, after which Allan Baekke had stormed into the lead with almost 3.5 million chips. At this stage of the tournament, Boeree had an average stack of around 1 million chips, which could easily have been lost to a competitive field and the ever-increasing blinds. However, Boeree managed to climb the field at San Remo to go heads-up with Karlsson, who had also pulled off an impressive comeback.

In securing the EPT San Remo, Boeree, who holds a degree in Astrophysics with Manchester University, becomes only the third woman to win an EPT event. Even more impressively, Boeree is the second British woman after Vicky Coren to have won an EPT title.
