Jack Ellwood Continues Online Success with Double Sunday Win
Jack Ellwood is one of the top up-and-coming UK online poker players. The 24-year-old from Newcastle has achieved notable success in recent times and has become the subject of a great deal of talk, some of which has led to controversy. On Sunday, Ellwood reigned supreme after winning both the Ultimate Bet $200,000 Guaranteed and Full Tilt Poker FTOPS Main Event.
The double win highlights how multiple international and UK online poker tournaments from rival sites can be managed to good effect simultaneously. Playing on multiple ‘cross-site’ tables can increase a player’s chances of securing a top prize finish in tournaments, whilst it also improves the excitement factor as games must be managed carefully and in good time.
Ellwood’s Ultimate Bet $200,000 Guaranteed win saw him bank a healthy $51,016.80, whilst his Full Tilt Poker FTOPS Main Event top finish resulted in him scooping an impressive $237,643.69! The double win ranks as one of the finest results by a UK player on sites that are dominated by international players. Furthermore, Ellwood’s double joy comes off the back of a 2nd place finish in the recent PokerStars UKIPT Manchester, from which he went home with the sum of £37,500.
However, Ellwood’s recent successes have come amid controversy after he was apparently accused by another player at Full Tilt Poker of reneging on a deal. According to the user ‘JMaverick’, he had staked Ellwood to take part in the FTOPS Main Event but had not been paid the 50 per cent prize money owed to him. Further claims were made that the FTOPS Main Event had been won by a 16-year-old, which if true would have resulted in a confiscation of the prize money by Full Tilt Poker. Perhaps the somewhat ridiculous nature of the accusations could be put down to envy, as Ellwood’s double win on Sunday is a feat that is unlikely to be repeated any time soon.
